On Sunday the New York Jets (6-9) take on the Buffalo Bills (5-10) at Ralph Wilson Stadium (1 p.m. EST). This game is for the diehards as the Jets have lost two games in a row while the Bills have lost 7 of their last 9. Lets take a look at some of the keys to the game from the Jets perspective.
Sanchez saga continues- Quarterback Mark Sanchez returns to the starting lineup on Sunday as Greg McElroy is unable to play due to lingering effects from a concussion. At this point no one truly knows what to expect out of Sanchez as he is battered, beaten, and playing with little to no confidence. In my eyes Tim Tebow should have been given the start especially considering the blocking issues that the Jets have been experiencing on the offensive line. If the line puts up another putrid performance this week (McElroy sacked 11 times last week) Sanchez may not make it to halftime.
Run the damn ball- The Buffalo Bills defense is ranked last in the NFL giving up over 146 yards a game. The formula for the Jets should be run, run, and then run some more. Another reason why Tim Tebow should be starting this game.
Keller, Schilens ruled out- Both Dustin Keller and Chaz Schilens have been ruled out for Sunday’s game. For Keller this has been a brutal season as he missed 8 games due to injuries and is slated to become a free agent.
Slow down Spiller- Buffalo running back C.J. Spiller has filled in admirably for Fred Jackson tallying 241 rushing yards in his last 2 games. Gang Green’s defense must control the line of scrimmage and prevent Spiller from getting into open space. C.J. is also a receiving threat out of the backfield (41 catches) which will put some pressure on the Jets linebackers and safeties in pass coverage.
Rattle Ryan- Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has been struggling as he has only thrown 8 touchdowns over his last 8 games. The Jets defense must get pressure on Fitzpatrick and force him into poor decisions. Keep an eye on the status of Muhammad Wilkerson as he is questionable for Sunday’s game.
Chandler ruled out- Tight end Scott Chandler has been ruled out for Sunday’s game. Chandler was having a solid year for the Bills with 43 catches for 571 yards and 6 touchdowns.
It will be interesting to see which team shows up for this game as both organizations will go through some substantial changes this offseason. I would not be surprised to see a lifeless performance out of Mark Sanchez and the New York Jets. It has been another week of controversy for Gang Green and I am sure most of the players cannot wait to leave this circus like atmosphere. If the Jets get down early it could be blow out city. Bills 27-6
One sidenote: This could be the last game in green and white for several players including Bart Scott, Calvin Pace, Bryan Thomas, Shonn Greene, LaRon Landry, and Brandon Moore. I would like to take a moment to thank Bryan Thomas for his 11 years of hard work with the New York Jets. Thomas has been through a lot with the Jets but had a solid career racking up 33.5 sacks. There will be a legitimate changing of the guard at the linebacker position next year for Gang Green.
