Geno shines in New York Jets victory over the Dolphins

The New York Jets had nothing on the line but pride on Sunday, but for Gang Green that was more than enough to beat the Miami Dolphins 20-7.  The victory moved the Jets record to 8-8 and removed the Dolphins from the playoff picture.

Geno inspires-  Rookie quarterback Geno Smith continues to make progress as he had another turnover free performance on Sunday.  Smith made smart decisions with the football and effectively maneuvered himself around the pocket to avoid the pass rush.  Geno displayed a tremendous of tenacity while running with the football including on his inspiring 7 yard touchdown run. It appears that the game could be slowing down for the rookie signal caller.

Powell punishes-  With running back Chris Ivory out due to an injury Bilal Powell stepped up his game with 76 rushing yards.  Powell broke several tackles after initial contact and helped the Jets close out the game with his physical presence.

Offensive line solid-  The Jets offensive line did not give up any sacks while helping lead the way to 154 rushing yards.

Nelson, Kerley shine- Wide receivers David Nelson and Jeremy Kerley made several big plays on Sunday with both contributing 5 receptions.  It would be interesting to see these guys paired up with a legitimate #1 receiver.

Dee continues to improve-  Rookie defensive back Dee Milliner built on last week’s performance with a two interception game.  Milliner was consistent in coverage and appears to be playing with a ton of confidence.  Rex Ryan has to be encouraged about Dee heading into the offseason.

Coples getting after it-  Linebacker Quinton Coples continues to emerge as a force at the outside linebacker position.  Coples is moved all around the field and makes big plays behind the line of scrimmage.  The sky is the limit for Quinton next year as he has become very comfortable in his new role.

Defensive line dominates-  Once again the Jets front led by Muhammad Wilkerson, Damon Harrison, and Sheldon Richardson completely disrupted the line of scrimmage.  The unit played a big part in holding Ryan Tannehill to 20/40 and 3 interceptions.

This was a great team victory for the New York Jets.  Gang Green played physical on both sides of the ball and seemed to want the game more than the Miami Dolphins.  This was the type of performance you love to see out of a Rex Ryan team.  And this is great news for Jets fans as the organization announced that Rex Ryan will be back next season.
